Demerara syrup brings a toasty, caramel-like sweetness to your drinks, made from demerara sugar, which is less processed for a richer flavor. It’s perfect for adding depth to classics like Old Fashioneds.

Ingredients

  • 300g demerara sugar
  • 150g Water

Steps

  1. Combine the water and demerara sugar in a saucepan.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat, stirring occasionally to help the sugar dissolve.
  3. Once the mixture is close to boiling and the sugar has fully dissolved, remove the pan from the heat.
  4. Allow the syrup to cool completely.
  5. Once cooled, transfer the syrup into your bottle of choice.

Notes

  • For the most accurate results, it’s recommended to weigh out your ingredients.
  • Alternatively, this syrup can be made by heating up water in the microwave, adding the sugar, and mixing until desolved.
  • If demerara sugar isn’t available, turbinado sugar is a suitable substitute.
