The Espresso Martini, enjoyable with either vodka or cognac, is a spirited blend of coffee liqueur and freshly brewed espresso—it’s a rich and vibrant concoction that serves as the ultimate pick-me-up.

Espresso Martini


Ingredients

  • 1 oz (30 ml) coffee liqueur
  • 1 oz (30 ml) vodka or cognac
  • 1 oz (30 ml) freshly brewed espresso
  • 0.25 oz (7.5 ml) rich Demerara syrup (2:1 sugar:water)
  • Oil from one swath of lemon
  • 3 coffee beans for garnish

Steps

  1. Chill a martini glass in the freezer or by filling it with ice water.
  2. Make espresso and set it aside to chill.
  3. In a mixing glass, add coffee liqueur, vodka or cognac, chilled espresso, and Demerara syrup.
  4. Express lemon oils into the mixing glass.
  5. Add cubed ice and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to create a nice foam on top.
  6. Double strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass.
  7. Express a little more lemon oil on top.
  8. Garnish with three coffee beans.

Notes

  • Mr. Black Coffee Liquor is recommended.
  • I prefer this with cognac.
