The Espresso Martini, enjoyable with either vodka or cognac, is a spirited blend of coffee liqueur and freshly brewed espresso—it’s a rich and vibrant concoction that serves as the ultimate pick-me-up.
Ingredients
- 1 oz (30 ml) coffee liqueur
- 1 oz (30 ml) vodka or cognac
- 1 oz (30 ml) freshly brewed espresso
- 0.25 oz (7.5 ml) rich Demerara syrup (2:1 sugar:water)
- Oil from one swath of lemon
- 3 coffee beans for garnish
Steps
- Chill a martini glass in the freezer or by filling it with ice water.
- Make espresso and set it aside to chill.
- In a mixing glass, add coffee liqueur, vodka or cognac, chilled espresso, and Demerara syrup.
- Express lemon oils into the mixing glass.
- Add cubed ice and shake vigorously for 10-15 seconds to create a nice foam on top.
- Double strain the mixture into the chilled martini glass.
- Express a little more lemon oil on top.
- Garnish with three coffee beans.
Notes
- Mr. Black Coffee Liquor is recommended.
- I prefer this with cognac.
